Must say that this is a superb review. It’s not often that I look at a review of a product I’ve been using for years and completely agree with the assessment, but the pros and cons are extremely well compiled and are on par with my experience.
Great work!

July 1st, 2010 - 11:42
It’s ok when you consider that even a 4 year old fullframe DSLR costs at least 1000€
.
I use some old analog lenses too and I love them!.
July 1st, 2010 - 12:31
Oh. Thats lame
July 1st, 2010 - 12:40
Sure. Get a Pentax DSLR 2nd hand for about 200$, dust off your old lenses and have fun
.
But remember that a non-pro DSLR without a full-sized sensor acts as a 1.5x Teleconverter on analog lenses so 50 mm apears like 75 mm.
July 1st, 2010 - 12:47
Really? I got a bunch of old pentax lenses. If i can find a cheap pentax house i’d get away really cheap
July 1st, 2010 - 13:24
Yes, every Pentax DSLR can use analog lenses with Pentax mount, no matter how old they are. Pentax-F, Pentax-FA or newer are recommended because they offer autofocus.
Sigma, Tamron, Tokina etc with Pentax mount are usable as well.

Ive got it set to Shutter priority but i seem to keep having the issue of the picture being to dark or just completely white. guess ill show up early and snap a couple of pics to see what i need. But I want the best stop action I can get.
July 1st, 2010 - 15:55
what is the results you want to get?normaly sport mode will set to drive mode and faster shutter to stop the movement.
if you want some movement at sport shoot, set the shutter slower like 1/50, 1/40 try more setting yourself
good luck

Hi Steve Just viewed the image comparison of the GF1 and the M9. As you state in the review it is to be expected that the M9 is better, however if I had just spent $7000 on a Leica, quite frankly I would be quite disappointed. Put a quality lens on the GF1 and the M9 would battle. I was myself looking at a Leica M9, however after viewing it image quality I have now changed my mine. anyway love your reviews. Cheers Hanz

@stevehuff1969 My mom and cousin just bought a leica, it was only $800 which is the same street price for the GF1. My mom barely uses it. #LOL

July 1st, 2010 - 22:25

hey steve…where is the panasonic $700..
July 2nd, 2010 - 02:04
can the gf1 fit in your pocket
July 2nd, 2010 - 02:08
curious about the focusing: the Olympus ep2 has follow focus and so does the Panasonic – however, I don’t see Panasonic claiming it can follow focus on a moving object ACROSS the frame and coming to/from the camera How about it?
July 2nd, 2010 - 02:26
haha, the pc lens is as thick as your forefinger but what if you have ginormous fingers?
July 2nd, 2010 - 02:28
hey stevestuff..how is the gf1 compared to the leica d-;ux 4..which one is better
July 2nd, 2010 - 03:11
There are so many reviewers on YouTube, yet no one makes it nearly as interesting as you do. Good work!!!
July 2nd, 2010 - 03:24
Well what i hear from the dealer is LX3 is more to beginner and GF1 is more to professional but i would like to prefer GF1 because it just a matter of time and experience to handle the GF1. you can use GF1 to master your photography skill too..Imagine if you buy LX3 and once you master it you may need to waste money on buying a new cam again..it will be a waste because money can be use for lens
July 2nd, 2010 - 04:02
During video recording, manual focus – yes, aperture – I don’t think so.
July 2nd, 2010 - 04:06
Can you do manual focus and aperture control during video recording? Thanks!
July 2nd, 2010 - 04:17
how long can record continuously?? my lx3 only 8minutes to 8 minutes
how about this camera?
July 2nd, 2010 - 04:30
I spy a leica
July 2nd, 2010 - 05:27
Steve thanks for sharing GF1 review. I am looking for a portable yet able to take good quality photos. I am pondering over LX3 vs GF1. LX3 is smaller, more portable but lack of zoom capability. Whereas, GF1 has better zoom but not sure about its weight and size. Please advise.

 yes lol
July 2nd, 2010 - 06:41
ohh, and do you think the micro 4:3 will prosper? Im still not sold… just asking your opinion, hehehe
July 2nd, 2010 - 07:14
I have the X1 on pre-order, and looking at this one, and they are not identical cameras obviosly, but they are gonna have some overlapping functions
I havent pulled the trigger on this one cause of the X1, witch will no doubtedly take better pictures and be a little simpler then a system camera…
BUT this one does video as the X1 does not… so what do you think? should i pull the trigger on this one? lol
July 2nd, 2010 - 07:51
Leica cameras have always been expensive. Leica is a much much smaller company that Panasonic, Canon or Nikon. They do not have the sales volume and their cameras are hand made. Making one M9 takes a huge amount of work, and the M9 and X1 are “made in Germany” cameras.
The lens quality is phenomenal and the X1 has one of their best lenses attached. It is also simple and not filled with complicated menus and buttons. It will be a much better built camera, and have amazing image quality.
July 2nd, 2010 - 08:32
Steve, can you tell me why then Leica cameras are so expensive. There is Leica x1 due out January with none of the bells and whistles of GF1 for $1200. Is the lens quality that noticeable in the shots to justify the price? Thanks.
